Pedometer is currently undoubtedly a fashionable gadget. However, in this case it is not only a fad – more and more people find out how important a step counter can be in their everyday life. It’s a product which is useful not only for people struggling with overweight or obesity. What is a pedometer and what is a smartband? What should you know before you decide to buy one?

2. How does the pedometer work?

3. How to choose a smartband with pedometer?

4. How to use a stopwatch?

According to scientists, a sedentary lifestyle is as dangerous as smoking. It’s easy to get caught up in the hustle and bustle of everyday life, not minding that we’re moving from the car to the office, then back to the car and the couch to get some rest before going to bed. Of course, even when we are aware that we need to take regular exercise, counting steps in our mind doesn’t stand a chance. Admittedly, each of us can download an app on our phone that will provide us with step measurement. But first of all it requires carrying a smartphone with us all the time, and secondly such applications are very often unreliable. That’s why it’s worth choosing a pedometer.

1. Pedometer – is it worth buying?

Pedometer is a simple electronic device that allows you to measure the number of steps you take during physical activity. In its classical version, the step counter is based on a pendulum, registering hip movements. Most often, this device comes in the form of a watch. But there are different types of pedometers.

A pedometer, also simply called a step counter, supports our physical activity on a daily basis. If you’re scared of grueling workouts, you don’t like running or playing sports or you simply can’t do it for various reasons, walking is enough to take care of your health, fitness and get rid of extra pounds.

Thestep counter motivates you to make more effort, shows the number of calories burned and the distance covered. Pedometers equipped with a number of additional functions allow you to check the progress of your trainings on an ongoing basis and consciously plan your physical activity, corresponding to the number of calories consumed during the day.

2. How does the pedometer work?

Operation of a pedometer is not complicated. This device in its basic form works thanks to a pendulum on a spring, which is made of a material that conducts electric impulses. When you move, the pendulum moves, taking extreme positions and allowing you to count your steps.

If you are wondering which pedometer to buy, it is worth noting that there are several types of pedometers on the market. Among them we should mention:

  • Pedometer with belt holder
  • Wrist or armband pedometer
  • Pedometer with belt holder

As we mentioned above, it is possible to use an application on your phone with a step counting function. However, it’s worth doing some solid research beforehand, because finding an app that will take measurements with high accuracy is not easy.

3. How to choose a smartband with pedometer?

Smartband looks inconspicuous, but it is actually an impressive mechanism, closed in a tiny device. It is a sports band, thanks to which we can monitor our physical activity of the day, calories burned and basic vital signs (day and night).

Smartband will come in handy during winter sports, while training in the gym, running and many other forms of physical activity. Thanks to the fact that these devices are usually waterproof, we can also take them to the pool.

When choosing a smartband, pay attention to the material used during production. A very good option is skin-friendly elastic rubber, durable and splash-resistant. The already mentioned water resistance should also be one of the priorities for us.

When it comes to additional features, the already discussed pedometer, number of meters covered and number of calories burned are the bare minimum. It will also be useful to monitor the time and quality of sleep, heart rate monitor and, of course, the operating system that will allow the device to communicate with our smartphone.

Importantly, to buy a high-end smartband, we do not have to spend several thousand zlotys. Many cheap, good smartbands with step counting function can be found, for example, in Allegro offers.

4. How to use a stopwatch?

Another device, useful during all kinds of workouts, is a stopwatch, otherwise known as a second meter, used for measuring shorter time distances with high accuracy. Stopwatch can be purchased separately or as an integral part of the already discussed devices, as well as smartphones. The choice is really large, which does not make it easy to decide what to buy. It is best to consider how we will use the stopwatch most often and on this basis choose the right type of device.

In conclusion, pedometers, stopwatches, smartbands or smartwatches are small devices that have great possibilities. Thanks to them we can take care of our health and well-being more consciously and effectively.
